The Death of Console Exclusives Is Inevitable and I Don't Know How I Feel About It

Is everything really an Xbox? Does that mean everything will also, eventually, be a PlayStation? One thing is certain: the games industry is going through a massive change, and console exclusives are a thing of the past.

So what does the future hold for our beloved hobby, and will we see Master Chief on PS5? God of War on the next Xbox? Stranger things have happened.

With the unprecedented decision by Xbox to start publishing its first party games on PS5 (including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle) after already making them available day one on PC, and on mobiles and smart devices via xcloud, it seems that all bets are off: it's very likely that Xbox crown jewels like Gears of War and Fable will one day be released on PlayStation. It would have seemed unthinkable just a few years ago, but then Sonic the Hedgehog showing up on Nintendo was out of the question once. Now, he's on Mario's Christmas card list. Times change, and the games industry is constantly adjusting to new normals.
